Three Chef's Hats - worth the splurge?
June 23rd 2010 06:00
Tetsuya’s has been the receiver of the highest rating (Three Chef’s Hats) in the “Sydney Morning Herald Good Food Guide” since 1992, and is one of “The World’s 50 Best Restaurants", Restaurant Magazine (London) since 2002.
His renowned degustation set menu offers the best produce in season paired with some of the best Australian wines. It is Tetsuya’s unique cuisine – a beautiful fusion of Japanese and French cuisines, real love for food and true passion for cooking that wins him award after award.
People from all over world book months (and even years) in advance to get *an opportunity to taste Tetsuya’s unique cuisine. We first tried to get a booking two years ago, and were disappointed to learn that the next available booking wasn’t for another year! We knew it was a popular restaurant but to wait a year?! To *add insult to injury*, the person manning the phones that day must have woken up on the wrong side of the bed – she was abrupt and really unsympathetic to our *plight* and offered no solution; not even a “I’ll let you know if we’ve a cancellation.” We were slightly dejected – to say the least – and left *it aside.
Fast forward to 2010, and after receiving a nice little bonus, we figured a treat is in order, so we e-mail for a reservation. Guess what? There’s a table available within two months! Now, we’re wondering if we’re being a bit frivolous – it is after all $200 a person! …but this is what is on offer this season…
What do you think? Splurge or Save?
