A Man's Salad
July 10th 2008 13:29
Most of the men I know think of a salad as a dainty women's meal that could never satisfy a man's appetite, even as a side dish. At a BBQ a few years ago, I experimented with a number of ingredients and created this simple but delicious salad that has cime to be known as the "Man's Salad" which I've yet to see any male turn their nose to. Although it may not be the most healthy salad, it is a fail safe for any BBQ.
Ingredients:
4 Heads Romaine Lettuce (chopped)
Iceberg lettuce may be used, but it has little nutrition value compared to Romaine.
3 Tomatoes (chopped)
1 Large Cucumber (chopped)
2 Bunches Green Onions (chopped)
4 Hard Boiled Eggs (chopped)
1/2 Cup Cooked Bacon (crumbled)
3/4 Cup Crumbled Bleu Cheese or Feta Cheese
For pickier eaters, Cheddar or any other cheese works fine
2 Breasts Cooked Chicken (chopped)
1 Cup Homemade Ranch Dressing (store bought works fine, but homemade is always better)
Wash and dry the lettuce well. Chop the leaves into smaller pieces. Add all the remaining ingredients, piling one on top of the next. Be sure to toss the salad, either with or without the dressing before serving, as the toppings tend to get taken first. This will ensure that your eaters will at least get a little nutrition with the toppings they love.
