Healthy and delicious Nira Moyashi
August 2nd 2009 00:18
Nira Moyashi is a simple Japanese dish of bean sprouts and garlic chives. The Chinese too have a similar dish but with some additional ingredients. My version of the dish is a fusion of both…with some personal touches.
It’s simple to cook and so nutritious, and goes well with any kind of Asian mains or even as a quick main of salad.
What you need:
1 bag of bean sprouts
1 bunch of garlic chives
salt
cooking oil
sesame oil
chilli flakes – optional
What to do:
1…I prefer the tails of the bean sprouts docked – just looks more appealing, so this step is optional. Otherwise, just rinse thoroughly and leave soaking in a bowl of water.
2…Wash the garlic chives thoroughly. Cut the roots off and the burnt tops (if any). Then cut the chives – about 5cm in length.
4…Drain the sprouts and add in. Salt and add chilli flakes as desired. Stir-fry for a few minutes till desired texture – it should still have a bit of crunch to it.
5…Add a dash of sesame oil to it as you turn off the heat. Stir through.
Tips…
...You can add some light soya sauce instead of using salt in step 4.
...this dish should be served immediately upon cooking.
