Visions of Dancing *Cups*…
October 5th 2009 01:09
Dear Readers…sorry for the poor posting. This site has been experiencing technical problems – you might’ve noticed that you frequently can’t load/find the site, well me too. The problem has been lodged and is being looked into but I’m not sure when it’ll be resolved. Thank you for your patience and ongoing support.
Now…Back to those cups…
The butter is obviously fraternizing with the peanut butter. The evidence is apparent. The peanut (super) buttery aroma fills my little kitchen and visions of the end product fills my mind. Mmm…
It most cases, this act would be deemed a *sin* – you *can’t* have peanut butter and butter (at the same time!), but we’ll let it slip this time. Just because, I was recently tempted with a confectionary that I (so) enjoy… **Reese’s peanut butter cups! Unfortunately, it’s hard to come by in this part of the world, and ever since Jean’s post… I’ve had visions of those tiny cups dancing in my head.
It’s killing me. Every time I close my eyes, those tiny cups are there…taunting me. I have to break that vision. There’s only one thing to do, brave the cold windy morning (it was 14 degrees Saturday morning and wet!), and head to the supermarket (for the ingredients).
My adaptation of Family Canteen’s recipe for Reese's Squares
What you need:
3/4 cup butter or margarine, melted
1/2 cup crunchy peanut butter, melted
1/2 cup creamy peanut butter, melted
*1 3/4 cups of Digestive biscuits, crumbed – that’s about 14 pieces
250g dark chocolate chips – or more if you prefer, say 340g
What to do:
1…Melt the butter and peanut butter. All I did was heat a pot, take it off the heat and put the butter and peanut butter in to melt it.
2…Stir in the crumbed Digestive biscuits and mix well. Pour and pack it down into a medium-size pan.
3…Melt chocolate – I did it with a bowl over a pot of boiling water, like double boiling. You could do this for step 1 too.
4…Spread chocolate over the peanut butter biscuit base. Chill in fridge until it sets. Let thaw for a while before slicing.
5…Indulge!
Notes:
* Digestive biscuits are an alternative to graham crackers (which are not available in this part of the world), and it’s still yummy.
** Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups are delightful tiny cups (imagine tiny cupcake-holders) of cookie-like creamy peanut butter covered with chocolate. Simply divine!
If you haven’t had the experience of a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup, and you love peanut butter, you should try this recipe. It is very close to the real thing! A bite of this will take you to the moon and back… Reese's have since developed variations of their peanut butter delights and now come in different shapes and sizes. Thank you Jean for sharing this morish recipe.

I'll also make some doggy-bone shaped ones for Fergal (minus the choc of course)
