Top 10 Items for the Fridge and Pantry
October 11th 2009 12:02
Apart from the typical condiments and the basic necessity of oil and butter, or fresh fruit and vegetables, we usually have items that we must have or like to have in the fridge and pantry.
I often find myself replenishing (or even stocking up when it’s on sale) certain key items. It’s sort of a *security blanket* for me to know that I have them (and so that there isn't any "pantry panic"...) – of course they’re also items that I frequently whip up something with.
Top 10 items in my fridge/pantry are:
Pasta
All kinds of pasta, and seeing it’s often served over here, there can never be too much!
Flour
A variety of flour – wholemeal, plain and corn, including self-raising and regular. It’s great for sudden baking ideas or *need* for fried food moments.
Rice
A necessary accompaniment with the stir-fries and curry-ish dishes I do.
Smoked or Canned Fish
Love it in a sandwich or wrap, or even with pasta or in a salad – great too as an appetiser filling. So versatile!
Canned Tomatoes
A rich source of antioxidant, lycopene, it’s handy for a quick pasta sauce or a slow-cooked meal.
Free-range Eggs
Low in calories and packed with a variety of nutrients and vitamins, eggs are no longer perceived as unhealthy, and is good to have in your diet. Eggs are much loved over here so it’s a constant in the fridge.
Sundried Tomatoes
A great flavour enhancer for a variety of dishes or salads.
Olives
It’s versatile for pasta dishes, in appetizers or in salads.
Bread-mix
An item my Sunbeam bread-maker and I like.
Oatmeal
It’s a fantastic soluble fiber, which can lower your bad/LDL cholestrol without lowering your good/HDL cholestrol. A bowl of oatmeal is a good way to start the day off right. I also like to add some of it to my bread-mix recipe.

Thank God we are all different.
I really should get into the oats, there's a very nice slice to make. Perhaps my morning weet bix could do with a swap, too, Lara.

'Mi Goreng' is delicious but I'm too *scared* to have it at home for fear that I might just gobble it all down
katyzzz...oats is a great alternative. I think you'll enjoy it.
